2024: HAPPY YEAR OF THE WOOD DRAGON! I am offering new art workshops and sharing the process of creating a graphic novel. Interested? Please check out my NEWS page for updates. I am now on Instagram! A site specific to my work in comics, sequential art & illustration, will be available soon. In the meantime, I welcome you to explore this site, which contains several galleries of my decades of work in the Fine Arts: painting, drawing, lithography, animation, murals, etchings, sculptures, book arts, and more... - julie

Brief Bio:
I have always been an artist. I have supported myself by waiting tables, cleaning homes & hotel rooms, childcare, and factory labor. I worked as a freelance illustrator, and traveled to China in the 1980s as a courier. I became the first person in my family to get a college degree. Deep Gratitude goes to my family, friends, students, and patrons who helped me achieve my dream of becoming a successful, independent, Artist. See BIO pages for a CV and critical writing on my work. Note: All material on this site is copyrighted and may not be used without permission.

For the past 25 years, I have had the honor of mentoring diverse participants and students in both rural and urban settings, on university campuses, art schools, summer art camps for kids, community college, public libraries, jail and prison. My paintings and hand-drawn animated films have been shown in galleries and museums.

Please click the link for ARTWORK to visit galleries. Artist statements accompany each project. Notably, there is little digital embellishing: just images of actual artworks made by hand and mostly photographed using 35mm film. Old School. No AI.

The galleries on this site are organized chronologically from the 1980s to the present. Here, I share with my students, patrons, and community, the stages of development over the long haul:
Students: although it can be an arduous, and winding path to becoming the unique artist you were meant to be, remember to stay true to what you love, and keep your feet on the ground, and you will get there...Good Luck!
